Michael McLaren's reception in the Novitiate
There was cause for joy in the English & Scottish province on 12 April when Michael McLaren was accepted into the novitiate by Provincial Superior Fr Robert Marsh OSA at St Augustine’s Church in Hammersmith, London. Michael has spent the past 17 months at St. Mary's Church Harborne, Birmingham, where he was of great use to the friars there during England’s national lockdowns. A journalist by training, Michael spent a large part of his working life at the BBC where he specialised in change management and governance. He first encountered Augustinians as an undergraduate and admits that it took him a long time to give in to the impulse to join. The ceremony was incorporated into evening prayers, and broadcast online so his family – as well as his Augustinian family in Birmingham and elsewhere in the UK – could share the celebrations. Hammersmith friars rounded off the evening with celebratory drinks. We request your prayers for Michael as he begins this important journey in the religious life.
