My room is about 40 feet from a main road with very heavy traffic almost all the time. With a major A & E up the road, ambulances race by, four or more every hour with sirens blaring. It is likewise with police cars. I was asked to write about SILENCE. There is none at least externally in my life. It is the same for many people. I am much more interested in the inner silence where we hear and meet with our Creator and with our Saviour, Jesus Christ. That is what really matters when all is said and done, being one with Him. 'Make your home in me as I make mine in you'. Jesus invites us to make our home in him. Most people think of going to a quiet place for a few days to do that but we need to do it every day in our noisy life situation - find inner silence.
How can we do it?
Make TIME every day for God. Set aside specific times to be with Him. Recall that He has made his home in you. Focus on Him during those time. Try yo let go of other thoughts and distractions. With his grace you/I can do it. We are not alone because He is within us. St Peter says, 'let your thoughts be on heavenly things, not on earthly things. St Paul reminds us that 'our true home is in heaven.' He came to the point where he said 'I no longer live but Christ lives in me'. You/I are called to that. It is of course God's gift but from the human side, we can help bring it about by making time every day for Him.
